WHAT HAVE WE BEEN DOING THE LAST TWO YEARS?

WHAT HAVE WE BEEN DOING FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS?It seems that we are busier than ever before in our careers. We continue to visit our supporting churches as we are able. Let us know if you are interested in having us come and give an update at your church. Angie continues to work with the student sponsorship program in Choluteca and provides support for the nursing school whenever she is needed. We plan to accompany two groups to work in Choluteca this November. One group plans to install a solar electric system on the church and nursing school property. Angie will be participating in an Eye Brigade with Dr. Brady Kail, who has made multiple trips to Honduras and other parts of the world, serving those who need glasses and have eye problems. Larry is the Global Advisor for the Monitoring and Evaluation of World Gospel Mission projects. During our trip to Honduras in December, he plans to conduct research on the impact of several projects in Choluteca. |
BECAUSE OF YOUR HELP, KATY BEAT THE ODDS.Only 31.7% of young people in Honduras between the ages of 15-17 are attending school. The school desertion rate is even worse in rural areas. There are solutions to the problem. The church can help encourage children and youth to stay in school. You have provided scholarships to disadvantaged youth. A 4-H after-school mentoring program has been started to teach life skills to youth. Katy lives in the community of “7 de mayo” where the Shalom Church has established a daughter congregation that Katy attends. Katy says, “Because of my scholarship given, I had my uniforms each year and I was able to reach this dream I desired so much. I was even able to do my practical experience in the near-by mayor’s office in Namasigue. This scholarship program has come to help many children and young people to get ahead, especially those who did not have the opportunity to do this before. I am also in the 4-H program, and attend the “Mar de Galilea” Church, and even belong to a small business we started, which is generating funds for my family.” Katy achieved a dream that many young people in Choluteca are unable to reach. This year in December she will graduate from high school with a degree in Accounting and Finances. She will be qualified to work as an auditor, a bank teller, or as a manager in accounting.
