What's New-Personal Update-September 2022

What's New-Personal Update
We are grateful for your continued support and encouragement to us as we serve with World Gospel Mission. "I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy." (Philippians 1:3-4 NKJV)

• Please help us pray for the funds that we need in our ministry. In recent months they have decreased.

• We ask for prayers for our family as several of us are facing health issues.

September has been a busy month of travel to three conferences and gatherings with other WGM missionaries. It was encouraging to attend a spiritual retreat at WGM and then a conference in Murfreesboro, TN about outreach ministries. Finally, we attended a Diaspora networking meeting in Florida about how scattered people groups around the world are spiritually impacted through God's people in their new area, resulting in an impact in their homeland also! What an exciting time it is to see how God is working around the world!
In the next couple of months, we will have the opportunity to share at Cedarville University in October and Ohio Christian University in November. Then we will be hosting two teams in Choluteca from November 28- December 10. We have a team who will install the solar panels on the mission property where the nursing school and Shalom Church are located. We also have a team who will be doing eye exams and fitting people for glasses. As we finish the year, we look forward to the next couple of months.
Larry is working with the projects as Global Advisor for Monitoring and Evaluating Projects for WGM. Larry works with projects in the Americas, Albania, Papua New Guinea, etc. It is a blessing to hear the stories and impact of WGM worldwide. The three main projects Larry works with in Choluteca are the nursing school, the vocational school, and the 4-H program. Angie is working with the sponsorship program and helping with the nursing school.
We are blessed to be a part of the Americas Region Team. We are witnessing an exciting result that has occurred in WGM with the international ministry. We have missionaries who are coming out of our long-term Latin ministries and going to other parts of the world! Our Americas Region Team orients these new missionaries and gives guidance where needed. Praise the Lord for raising His people to spread the Gospel worldwide!

Impact story- 4-H in Choluteca, Honduras

As a result of the 4-H program in Choluteca, youth can participate in after-school activities that lead to life-changing worldview outcomes (changes in their behavior, knowledge, attitude, skill, or situation). One of these young people, Juan, recently explained to Pati, one of the Choluteca 4-H coordinators, that before coming to the club activities, he had suffered from a severe attitude problem resulting in relationship issues with others. He didn’t care what other people thought of him. A friend invited him to come and see what 4-H is all about.
Juan told Pati that he had always stood at a distance from the 4-H activities and wondered what everyone was doing. Finally, a friend encouraged Juan to attend one of the meetings where he observed everything from the back of the room. After his first time attending, Juan told Pati, “Right now, since I’ve been here, I don’t know what happened, but I felt something. I felt peace in my heart and all over inside. And when you were talking, it was interesting that you were talking about the topic of ‘attitude’ and our personality. I think the topic was meant just for me.”
Juan then told Pati that he wanted to change his life. He had dropped out of school. However, after getting involved in 4-H, in April, along with his mother, Juan went to talk to his teachers and asked if they would accept him back. We thank God that Juan is now back in school. He has learned to set new priorities. Juan testified to Pati, “My mom is very surprised at the change that has taken place in me. I’ve been like a transformed person, and I think that wouldn’t have been possible without your help.”
The 4-H program was started in Choluteca in 2018 out of the conviction that providing an after-school program would help encourage young people to learn new life skills through participating in hands-on projects, collaborating with others in the community, and being inspired by adult mentors. With church participation and a scholarship program that helps with the basic costs of attending school, we believe the participation rate in the formal classroom will increase.

We were blessed to teach a gardening class to 4-H participants in May!

Action Steps
* Pray that our ministry support will increase, providing funds for travel and continuing in our ministry (Overholt ministry account).
* Pray that God will continue to transform Juan’s life, that he will prosper in the classroom, and that he will learn from the “hands-on” experience of working with others in developing a community small business through the 4-H project.
* Consider supporting the Choluteca Sponsorship Program that provides items needed for students to continue in school (#25498).
* Donating to the Choluteca Development fund (#25492) will ensure that Pati and her team will have the resources needed to expand 4-H in Choluteca.
